A premier tennis challenge for youth
From December 7-10,
Greenwich resident
Justin Lee, 8, traveled to the Lone Star State
for the
Little Mo Tournament, a premier tennis
challenge for
youth to compete against players from other
countries
who are the same age.
Against the best competition in the world, Lee
beat
King Roy, of Clute, TX 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 in the
quarterfinals and advanced to play Maxwell
Cancilla,
of Huntington Beach, Calif. but fell to his
opponent.
In 15 matches played, Lee won 13 against
youngsters
from the Dominican Republic, Ireland, Russia,
as well
as United State athletes from Texas, Georgia
and New
York.
The Little Mo International Open is a program
of the
Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation
that
started 30 years ago in Dallas. The goal of
the
tournament is for players to develop new
friendships
with players from other countries, provide
outstanding
competition and to learn good sportsmanship.
