Jim Courier, Davis Cup captain, announced Tennys Sandgren and Mitchell Krueger will be practice partners for the USA Team at the Davis Cup tie in Boise, Idaho from April 5-7. Sandgren, ranked No. 218 in the world, is a former University of Tennessee All-American, who reached the semifinals of the 2011 NCAA tournament. Krueger was formerly the top-ranked American boys’ junior, peaking at a career-high No. 5 in the world junior rankings in January 2012 and advancing to the boys’ singles semifinals at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2012.

This is like the Oscars in the sports world. Steve is deserving and a wonderful role model for young athletes. Please go to: www.aausullivan.org to vote for Steve. Voting continues until March 17. Steve Johnson (USC graduate and standout tennis player) is a semifinalist for the prestigious AAU James E. Sullivan Award, which is given annually to the top amateur US athlete. Based on the qualities of leadership, character, sportsmanship, and the ideals of amateurism, the AAU James E. Sullivan Award goes far beyond athletic accomplishments and honors those who have shown strong moral character.
