“Little Mo” player wins Qualifier to advance to Main Draw of U.S. Open

<><> August 27, 2010 (7:21 P.M.) Court 11 was packed Friday as American Ryan Harrison defeated Brazilian Ricardo Hocevar in qualifying to reach the main draw of the U.S. Open. Harrison, who is from Louisiana but trains at the Bollettieri academy, fed off the crowd to come back from a set down and had a timely break in the third to serve for the match. On match point, the children in the stands stood poised with jumbo balls and notebooks, and as soon as Harrison aced his opponent, they stormed toward the court to beg for signatures and swag. And oh, did Harrison oblige. He bent down toward his racquet bag to pack up, and the children, big-eyed, screamed for one of his racquets. So he held one up above the crowd (the tallest kid, naturally, walked away with it). Next he started signing tennis balls, notebooks, receipts and peoples’…

MCB announces a new event called the “Mini Mo” for ages 5-8 using the new shortened courts. Erin Larner Wins MCB Girls’ 14 Championships

Dallas, Texas…Erin Larner (#4 seed) from Portland, Oregon won the 39th annual Maureen Connolly Brinker Girls’ 14 National Championships at T-Bar-M Racquet Club in Dallas, Texas. She defeated Alexis Pereira from San Gabriel, California 6-3, 6-2. The event was held from Friday, March 19 – Sunday, March 21, 2010. Alexandra Bourguignon (# 3 seed from Issaquah, WA) defeated Peggy Porter (#1 seed from Dallas, TX) for third Place and fourth Place: 6-3, 7-6 (8). Marie Norris (Burdett, KS) defeated Sydney Young (Austin, TX) for fifth and sixth place: 6-2, 6-1. In the consolation final, Madison Bourguignon (Issaquah, WA) defeated Macy Vonderschmidt (McKinney, TX) 5-7, 6-2, 10-4. The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Sydney Young (Austin, TX) Invitations were sent to the top players who are 14 & under from each section of the USTA. Boulder, Colorado – Babolat, leading manufacturer of tennis racquets, announces its sponsorship of the “Little Mo’” International Open tennis tournament. Babolat recently signed a XX-year contract to support the tournament as a presenting sponsor. The “Little Mo” International is open to any player from around the world who is 8-11 years old.
