As the first woman to win the calendar Grand Slam in 1953, she is the only American woman and the youngest player at age 18 to have accomplished this magnificent feat. Only four other players in the history of tennis have achieved the Grand Slam, winning all four major singles titles in one calendar year: Don Budge, Rod Laver, Margaret Court, and Steffi Graf.
